VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Not only is VirtualBox an extremely feature rich, high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software.

VirtualBox 6.0.0 was released December 18th, 2018. The following major new features were added.

  • Implemented support for exporting a virtual machine to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Greatly improved HiDPI and scaling support.
  • New file manager enabling user to copy files between host and guest.
  • Video and audio recording can now be separately enabled.
  • Transparently resize disk images when merging if possible.
  • Supports Linux Kernel 4.20.

To install VirtualBox 6.0, you will need first to edit your "/etc/apt/sources.list" file and add the following line according to the Ubuntu/Debian distribution you are using.

# Replace "CODENAME" by your distribution codename
# Check codename for Ubuntu use the following command `cat /etc/lsb-release`
# Check codename for Debian use the following command `lsb_release -a`
sudo echo "deb CODENAME contrib" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list >/dev/null 2>&1

You can now download and add the Oracle public key which will be required by your machine to install VirtualBox.

wget -q -O- | sudo apt-key add -
wget -q -O- | sudo apt-key add -

If everything went well you can now update your system and install VirtualBox using the below command.

sudo apt -y update && sudo apt -y install virtualbox-6.0

Una vez que VirtualBox esté instalado, simplemente ejecute el siguiente comando para iniciarlo desde la terminal o use el iniciador desde el menú para comenzar.
